Franklyn Charles Ray

Franklyn Charles Ray was born March 12, 1938 in Menlo, Washington and passed away on May 5, 2015 in Wenatchee. During his youth he could be found playing sports or helping his grandparents on their farm. Frank and his future wife, Kaye Murdock, met as toddlers. Frank began dating Kaye while they were in Junior High, and married the love of his life in 1959. Frank served in the army in Alaska as a Communications Specialist, which jumpstarted his long career in the telephone industry. His future job with General Telephone took him to Pullman, Davenport, Quincy and finally Wenatchee, where he retired after 30 years. Along the way Frank and Kaye had four sons, Doug, Terry, Brian and Rick. Frank was their biggest cheerleader at sporting events and any other endeavor the boys did. Frank’s biggest joys in life besides his children were his grandchildren. He loved Chelsea, Mandy, Krista, Mallory, Kellen, Cameron and Rine. He was fondly known as “Grandpa Motorhome.” The grandkids enjoyed taking trips with Frank and Kaye and looked forward to the fishing, swimming, camping, putt putt golf and all of the other fun events that Frank would make sure were part of each adventure. Frank was involved over the years in several service groups such as the Lions, Elks and Telephone Pioneers. He also loved to travel, and took his motorhome across the United States with Kaye along for the ride. He and Kaye also lived in Kihei, Maui, Hawaii for several years. Above everything else, Frank spent the majority of his retired years as a helper. He and Kaye often traveled to help others whenever they were called upon or saw that they could help. They helped care for ill family members, remodel homes, house sat and on and on. This past year Frank enjoyed babysitting his great granddaughter Sadie. Sadie’s favorite place to nap was curled up on Grandpa’s lap. Frank is survived by his loving wife, best friend and companion of 56 years, Kaye, their sons Terry and Brian, and all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his oldest son Doug and his youngest son Rick. The family would like to thank special friends Cork and Bonnie MacKinnon for their love and support throughout all of their years of friendship and during these past few difficult months. A memorial service for Frank will be held on Saturday, May 23rd at Calvary Bible Church at 3:00 in the afternoon. The location of the reception to follow will be announced at the service.
