Louise Delane Gaines Wenatchee, WA Louise Delane Gaines, 88, passed away on May 24, 2016 at Blossom Valley Assisted Living in Wenatchee, WA. She was born on August 19, 1927 in Princeton, ID to parents Jessie and Grant Shook. They moved to Everett, WA where Louise graduated from Everett High School and then worked in a clinic office. During that time she shared an apartment with her beloved brother Leonard (Ben) Shook and they were active in the Baptist church. They shared a very close bond and wrote weekly letters to each other over the years to keep in touch. She married John (Jack) Gaines and their children Scott and Debra were born in Roseburg, OR. Scott's twin (Steven) was lost tragically as a toddler in a house fire. They moved to Washington and eventually settled in Brewster in 1963 where they enjoyed a lot of camping and fishing. Louise worked in the community and apple industry, enjoyed Camp Fire Girls, Cub Scouts and her children's school activities and sports. She was a very loving, caring mom with a big heart. She attended the Calvary Baptist Church and had many friends. She also was a big Elvis fan, and after watching his movies countless times, her dream came true when she was surprised with tickets to see him live at a concert in Spokane. Let's just say she did some major "swooning" there! Louise moved to Wenatchee to be closer to her daughter Debbie and grandchildren Craig and Shae. Jack passed away in 2001. Crossword puzzles and keeping a daily journal were mom's passion. She said it kept her mind sharp and she was right! To this I can hear mom saying "well, duh!" as it was a favorite phrase of hers. She will be missed greatly as she was very much loved. Louise was preceded in death by her brother Leonard (Ben) Shook, sister Eleanor Aufderhaar, and son Steven. She is survived by sister Gladys Queen of Everett, son Scott Gaines of Wisconsin, daughter Debbie (Ed) Mitchell of East Wenatchee, grandson Craig Perry of California, granddaughter Shae Perry of Texas, step-grandson Cam Mitchell of East Wenatchee, and great-granddaughter Riley Perry of California. The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Blossom Valley Assisted Living that loved mom and took such great care of her over the past few years. And a special thank you to the physicians & nurses, physical therapists, home health and hospice from WVMC/Confluence Health for the care mom received through the years. You truly helped to better her quality of life. Louise’s life will be celebrated on Thursday, June 2nd at 10:00 am at Jones & Jones – Betts Chapel, 302 9th Street. Interment will follow at Wenatchee City Cemetery, 1804 N. Western Ave. Friends and family may visit Jones & Jones – Betts on Wednesday, June 1st from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
