Charlie Powell

Charles “Charlie” E. Powell passed away peacefully on December 12, 2023, at the age of 81 in his hometown of Cashmere, Washington, surrounded by the ones he loved most. Charlie was born in Bentonville, Arkansas on October 10, 1942 to Ernest and Martha Powell. He had one older brother, Marvin, and one younger sister Doris. When he was 9 years old, the family moved to the Cashmere valley in Washington State. Charlie had multiple jobs and volunteered in many ways throughout his life. He worked for years as a bus driver for the Cashmere School District. He was a loyal, life-long Bulldogs fan. He later was a mechanic for the city of Cashmere. He was dedicated to helping others and serving his community as a faithful volunteer firefighter and EMT. He loved NASCAR and stock car racing and helping a friend with his car at the East Wenatchee Speedway. He was a Master in the Masonic Lodge. He thoroughly enjoyed fantasy football. He could often be found with his longtime fantasy football partner, Scotty Chipman, enthusiastically drawing up the week’s line-up. He also enjoyed helping his friend Ken Hinson and his daughters with whatever was needed at the Hitching Post Tavern. Charlie loved his sister, Doris, and would visit her often. She was his go-to, always offering him a meal, running errands for him, and a loyal friend in times of need. His daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren were super important to him and he loved them dearly. He enjoyed visits with them, and watching their sporting events and activities. Charlie loved the Lord, his family, driving to church in his blue 1969 Buick Electra, a good garden tomato and cucumber, Doris’s potato salad, diet Pepsi, and putting ketchup and ranch on literally everything! In his later years, at the age of 74, he accepted and trusted in the love of his savior, Jesus Christ. He attended Bethel Baptist church with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Martha Powell; brother, Marvin Powell; brother-in-law, Wayne Warren; and nephew, Jeff Powell. He is survived by his sister, Doris Warren from Cashmere; his daughter Christine (Tylar) Kooy and three grandchildren, Brooklynn, Layne, and Wyatt from Quincy; and his nieces and nephews, Judy Palmer, Marvina Groesbeck, Dennis Powell and Tim Powell, all from Missouri. A service to celebrate and honor his life will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024 at 11:00 at Bethel Baptist Church in East Wenatchee, Washington.
