Emma Vivian Davenport

Emma Vivian Davenport, age nine, was caught up in the arms of Jesus as her bicycle and a car collided on Icicle Road, Leavenworth, WA on Wednesday evening, July 25, 2018. Our dear Emma was gifted to us on September 22, 2008 at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee WA., the first born child of Keith and Mercy Davenport. Emma was part pixie, part fount of creativity (a story factory that swept us up in her plots), and part good Samaritan with a thousand watt smile. Our Emma was a daughter of encouragement who sensed when someone needed Jesus with skin on and moved to meet that need. Her vivid imagination was fueled by her voracious appetite for books on far ranging subjects from mystery to history but grounded in God’s word, which she digested and shared with others through her loving presence. Emma would often walk in the woods behind her house with her dog, Rocky. Her Brother Joshua and sister Juliette were constant receivers of Emma’s enthusiastic, playful and creative nature and nurture. Drawing (she wanted to be an illustrator some day), writing poems, knitting and of course reading were some of Emma’s favorite activities. Emma naturally drew others into her sphere of influence with the words, “let’s do it, together”, for she dearly loved to be with others. Emma was baptized on Easter 2017, and she had a firm understanding deep within her of Jesus being the Lord of her heart and life. Emma proved her belief through her faithful service with her daddy, Keith, early every Sunday as a part of the ministry team of Grace City Church, as they transformed the PAC into a place of worship. One of her side jobs during this time was playing with the other kids, mothering and loving on the younger kids especially. Emma loved to worship her Jesus during church services and on the worship team at Vacation Bible School this summer. Space is insufficient to relate all the stories we have heard from people of how Emma has touched them or their children. In nine short years our Emma has left a legacy of Christ empowered love and service that many adults will be hard pressed to match with a normal life span. We remind those who grieve, that Emma is not dead; rather she is more alive now than she ever was – never again to experience tears, pain, disappointment or suffering. Save us some space in your part of heaven, Emma, where you are we long also to be. Emma has gone ahead of us to be with her Savior, Jesus – leaving behind her parents Keith and Mercy Davenport, and her brother Joshua and sister Juliette – both of whom she adored. A partial list of those whose lives were deeply enriched by Emma are her paternal grandparents Doyle and Anita Davenport of Leavenworth; her maternal grandparents Sal and Joni Salcido of Wenatchee; her aunt Jamie Davenport of Leavenworth; her uncle and aunt Malachi and Cathy Salcido and her cousins Breanna, Rianne, Isabella and Jonathan Salcido of Wenatchee. Her uncle Brian Picchi of Wenatchee; and her friends and teachers at Grace City Church and Upper Valley Christian School will also feel the absence of the warm place she filled. A celebration of life service in Emma’s honor will take place at Sage Hills Church, 1601 Fifth St. Wenatchee on Friday, August 3rd at 11:00am
