Ethel M. Badten

Ethel Marie Badten October 14, 1933 – January 3, 2018 Ethel Badten, long time Withrow resident, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on January 3, 2018, at the age of 84. She was born October 14, 1933 to John and Lula (Maginness) Berk in Waterville, WA, the second of two children. The family resided on the farm at Alstown throughout her childhood. She attended school in Alstown and Waterville, graduating in the Senior Class of 1951. She married her soul mate, Alan Badten, on January 17, 1953 in the parsonage of the Withrow Lutheran Church and moved into what would be their family home in Withrow for the next 63 years. The happy, young couple soon welcomed three children into the family. She enjoyed cooking, canning, growing flowers and a vegetable garden, sewing, knitting, crocheting and spending time with her family. Family times were spent boating, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, and clam digging on the pacific coast. She was extremely proud of her wonderful grandchildren. Ethel was a member of 4-H, Waterville Wranglers, Wheat Wives, Douglas County Historical Society, Lake Chelan Yacht Club, and Waterville United Lutheran Church. She volunteered on the election board, judged home economics at the NCW and Chelan County Fairs, was a 4-H leader, worked many estate sales for the Douglas County Historical Society and volunteered in the Thrift Shop. She is survived by her children: Lou Ann Foged (Jens), Gale Badten (Janice), Linda Keller (Zach); grandchildren: Heather Foged (fiancé Michael Epperly), Adam Foged, Wade Foged (Abby), Tyler Badten (Taerrah), Lance Keller (Kaley); great grandchildren: Gideon Foged, Alaina Foged , Calan Badten; brother in law: Vernon Badten; sister in law: Vera Hansen; cousin: Harold Badten (Karen); two nieces and one nephew, and many wonderful lifelong friends. Ethel was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Alan Badten, her parents, her brother Junior John Berk, and her grandson Lee Alan Badten. Memorials may be made to Waterville Ambulance Fund or Mansfield Ambulance Fund in Ethel’s name. A celebration of Ethel’s life will be held at the United Lutheran Church in Waterville on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 2:00 P.M.
