Jackie McKown

Jackie (Lynch) McKown February 28, 1927 ~ May 6, 2014 Jackie McKown peacefully passed away at Highgate Senior Living Facility on May 6, 2014. Jackie was born in Colville, WA on February 28, 1927. She graduated from Colville High School and, soon after, at Washington State University, where she studied music. She met her husband of 66 years, Homer McKown, at WSU. Jackie was very active in her sorority, Delta Delta Delta, up to the end of her life. Jackie and Homer made their home in Pateros, WA, where they both ran a successful apple orchard. In addition, Jackie taught music for Pateros School District for many years. When Jackie and Homer retired from the apple orchard, they had many wonderful trips around the world and around the U.S. in their travel trailer. Many winters were spent in Yuma, AZ at their second home. Jackie and Homer moved to Wenatchee, WA in the 1990’s, where they joined and became active with St. James Episcopal Church in Cashmere, WA. Throughout Jackie’s long life, her love and passion for music colored everything. She never strayed far from her beloved piano. For years, she played music for her church and even put on recitals while living at Columbia Heights Assisted Living Facility. She was an accomplished oil painter and her family treasures her many works of art. Jackie was a very social lady, who always made friends wherever she was. She always had a positive outlook on life and was a kind and caring soul, who was loved by many. She is survived by her husband, Homer McKown; and her three children: sons, Kevin (Julie) McKown of Twisp, WA, and Michael McKown of Grand Rapids, MI, and daughter, Kelley Ross (Mark Powell) of Malaga, WA. In addition to her three children, she is survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service celebrating Jackie’s life will be held Monday, May 12, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Cashmere, WA. Any donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to St. James Episcopal Church at 222 Cottage Avenue, Cashmere, WA 98815.
