Marie J. Burge

The family lost our Matriarch on April 13, 2012. Through tears and laughter, we know the noise level increased in Heaven as a joyous welcome greeted her. The Guy Burge clan is now complete. The large Burge family is well known as one of the pioneering families of the Havillah and Tonasket area. Marie was born in Loomis on June 17, 1927, to Guy and Goldie (Fisher) Burge. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Martha, Ida, Bennett and Dorothy. Marie moved to Tonasket at age six months and lived there throughout her young adult life. As a teenager, she worked at Lee Frank's store until she graduated from Tonasket High School in 1945. She started working at the Tonasket Post Office and later transferred to the Wenatchee Post Office, where she retired after 30 years of service. Marie carried on the family's love of laughter and adventure. We all knew when our aunt arrived for a visit, she would have a new car and would be on another trip. She was one of the founding members of the Wenatchee Valley Senior Activity Center, dedicating over 25 years of volunteer work. Marie served on many boards and committees. She loved recruiting new members, helping with Bingo and the lunch program. Marie left behind many nieces and nephews, Darlene (Robert) Tracey, Colleen Picard; Corinne (John) McQuade; William Hudson; Donald (Debbie) Durrance; Daniel (Terri) Durrance and Linda Setala. She loved to brag about the many great-nieces and nephews; great-great- and great-great-great-nieces and nephews she had. She also leaves behind many dear friends and her beloved cat, Tweetie, who gave her much enjoyment, comfort and companionship these past years. Her family wishes to thank Nancy, Patty, Marge, Lori and Helga for helping her so many times. To her Doctors: Dr. Val Kolokoff and Dr. Shannon Grosdidier for their care and friendship to Marie for many years. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, April 26, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at the Wenatchee Valley Senior and Activity Center. At her request, a Graveside Service will be held on Friday, April 27, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at the Tonasket Cemetery.
