Maxine Adams

On Monday April 8th 2019, we lost our beloved mother, Grandma, and GG, Maxine (Claassen) Adams, 90, Wenatchee, Washington. Maxine was born November 29, 1928 to Charles & Stella (Giffith) Hartley of Monitor, WA. She graduated from Wenatchee High School, the class of 1947. In 1948, she married Phillip Claassen, also of Wenatchee and together they had eight children. She was active in St. Damian's Guild at St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Joseph's School PTA for many years. One of her favorite school activities was to participate in the mother-daughter basketball games. Additionally, she was a scout leader in both the Boy & Girl Scout of America. Maxine was an administrative assistant at C&O Nursery, for 10 years. She then worked for the Washington State Unemployment Office for 20 years, as a claims agent. In 1984, she married Jack Adams, of Mukilteo. Jack and Maxine enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. They also enjoyed cruises to the Caribbean. In later years, they split their time between their homes in Lake Chelan and San Luis Obispo, CA. She loved having family and friends visit and stay at the lake cabin. Maxine loved to tend to her beautiful gardens, feed her humming birds, cook, sew, read, and do puzzles. She delighted in keeping in contact with high school friends through her monthly luncheons with the “Girls of 47”. After Jack's passing in 2003, she resided in East Wenatchee to be close to family. The family would like to thank Highgate Senior Living for their loving care of Maxine for these last three years. She was proceeded in death by her loving husband Jack, her parents, Stella (Griffith) & Charles Hartley, an infant son, and her brothers Marvin and Bob, and sister Virginia and Edith. Maxine is survived by her eight children Patty Lucas (Wally), Steve Claassen (Suporn), Pam Claassen, Debbie Durham, Connie O'Connor (Paul), Rosemary Magnotti (Mike), Mike Claassen (Anne), Joe Claassen (Shay). Her three stepchildren, Debbie O'Leary (Bob), Jeff Adams (Kathy), LeAnne Mott (Doug), 23 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, and her sister Joanne Manning of Auburn, WA and many nieces and nephews. Her celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 12, 2019 at 1pm at New Song Community Church in East Wenatchee, WA. In lieu of flowers, please donate online to Maxine's Susan G. Komen Foundation fund.
