Norma Jean Voss

Norma Jean Voss 74, passed away peacefully in her home Monday, March 1, 2010 surrounded by her children. She had been ill for a little more than a year with cancer and did pretty well until this last month. She was so fortunate to be able to remain in her own home during this time, She loved spending time at home keeping up with her stories ( Y&R, ATWT, B&B and GH). She truly loved her family and her house was the central place for holidays and family gatherings. Norma was our matriarch, the glue that held us all together. She loved nothing more than having her children come to visit. Norma was an avid bowler until her health declined. She also liked ceramics, crocheting and flowers (without the gardening part) and she was also known to do a little gambling! She loved country music, singing with her sister Susie and laughing. They would travel to visit their brother Jesse and laugh the whole time. Norma was born in Salem, Arkansas, November 15, 1935 to Earl and Matilda (Mabes) Hudgens. She traveled with her family who followed the fruit harvest and she attended schools along the way. She met "Mr. Right" George Voss in Manson and they married in September 1954. They had four boys, Junior, Ronny, Russell and Brian and as you might imagine she was a very busy mom. She was the best mom! George and Norma lost their son Russell in a tragic accident when he was fifteen. A heartache that never left them. They did go on to raise three fine honorable men who they were so proud of and they were quick to brag about. Norma worked at Skookum, Auvil Orchards and Chief Wenatchee for more than thirty years. Hard worker, friendly, good and kind are all words that her friends would use to describe her. Norma is survived by three sons, George Jr. (Iona) of Rock Island, WA Ronald (Cami) of Cashmere, WA and Brian (Sharie) of Entiat, WA. Eleven grandchildren, Jennifer, James, Jamie, Shawna, Jeremiah, Paul, Dana, Sierra, Ryan, Ian, Selina and sixteen great grandchildren, Her sister Susie (Ken) Moore of Wenatchee, WA and her brother Jesse (Lupe) Hudgens of Mabeon, WA. Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Matilda Hudgens, her husband, George and son Russell, baby sister Inell and one great grandson, Stacey Young, Jr. Services will be held at Jones & Jones Betts Funeral Home, Friday March 5, 2010 at 10 a.m. followed by a graveside service at Wenatchee Cemetery and a gathering at Walla Walla Park. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 on Thursday at the Funeral Home. Her family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Garrison and his nurse Teresa and to Central Washington Hospice and Barb Kane for their kindness and care.
