Peggy Lou Hoaglin

Born Peggy Lou Pence, she married the love of her life, Earle D. Hoaglin, in 1949. Theirs was a whirlwind romance, meeting in June of 1949 and marrying in December of the same year. Their first daughter, Lee Ann (Hoaglin-Cooper) was born on November 20, 1950. Peggy, at 89 years old, passed peacefully, on the same date, November 20 2015, held closely by her two daughters. Peggy was born in Troy, Idaho on Sept. 7, 1926 . She was the third of four siblings that lived through childhood. She was the first of her family to attend a 4 year university, receiving her teaching certificate in 1949 from the University of Idaho. (Yes! The same year as she met and married Earle! What a year that must have been!) She played the trumpet in their all-girl band/orchestra, touring the state with a variety of venues. She finished her 5th year credentials at Eastern Washington University while working and raising 2 children. Thankfully, her Mother lived with her family during that time, and for 7 years after. Peggy said, "She came for 3 days and stayed 7 years." Her first teaching job was the small town of Kooskie, Idaho, where only single women were allowed to teach. (I guess love made a short career of that school!) She continued teaching, mostly middle school English, as Earle's job required relocation to both Kennewick and Wenatchee. She taught over 25 years before retiring in 1987. After their retirement, Peggy and Earle traveled the US by car. They loved to explore everything from museums to quiet mountain trails. They shared a love of the ocean which was evident in their home, as well as their travels. She went to Kalaloch Beach as often as she could. She went to Hawaii twice, once with each daughter. Peggy also traveled to China to help receive her 4th grandchild, Shaun. Family was very important to Peggy, and she was active in all of their lives, clear to the end. Peggy loved the natural world. Wildflowers held a special spot in her heart. So much so, she was caught in the Mount St. Helens eruption, while with a group shooting pictures of wildflowers. She also pressed flowers and spent hours identifying them. Her iris garden was enjoyed by many! She enjoyed photography as well. She was also a seamstress. She made nearly all the kids clothes when they were young, then making quilts for her family through the years. She was very proud of her work developing the first Wenatchee Genealogy Library, grown from her interest in tracking her family roots back before the American Revolution. Peggy never lacked for things to do. Earle, preceeded her in death in 2009, as well as their middle child, Carol, in 1954. Peggy leaves behind her two married daughters, LeeAnn (Bill) Cooper-Seattle Marla Garr (Rick Dineen), Omak and 4 grandchildren, Mandy Garr, Shaun Garr, Kristin (Cooper) Larsen, and David Cooper and one great grandchild, Brooklyn Larsen. She has one remaining sibling, Verna Ryan, Vancouver, WA. At her request there will be no memorial service. Internment will be at Park Hill Cemetery in Vancouver, Washington where her husband waits for the "Catch of His Life".
