Ruth L. Dahlin

Ruth L. Dahlin, 83, a resident of Winthrop, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2018. She is survived by her sisters, Evelyn Lynn and Carol Perusek and husband, Den, of Mojave Valley, Arizona; brother, Ernest “Ern” Goetzinger and wife, Hilda, of Malaga, Washington; sons, Steve Dahlin of East Chatham, New York and Andy Dahlin and wife, Alejandra, of Harlingen, Texas; son-in-law, Ken Schober of East Wenatchee, Washington; grandchildren, Leurisa Gutierrez-Zamora and husband, Dante, Bryce Schober and wife, Rachel, Daren Schober and wife, Meagan, Devin Dahlin , Adrian Dahlin, Arbor Dahlin, Brandon Dahlin and wife ,Elice , Heidi Hannaman, and husband, Joshua, Alejandro Tran, Leng Tran; Adrian _Varela, Antonio Varela, and Stephen Dahlin; great-grandchildren, Gemini, John, Marcel, Adelaide, Jillian, Alex, Luke, Jade, Catie, Julian, Braydon, Nolan; and her many friends in the Methow Valley. Ruth was preceded in death by her son, Brent Dahlin and her daughter, Bonnie Schober. Ruth was liked and respected by all who knew her and loved by all who knew her well. Her spirit lives on in their hearts. Life was a series of adventures for her, some she chose, some chosen for her. She embraced each one with an open heart and a smile. She lived. Ruth’s adventure began in Williston, North Dakota, born the first child of Harold and Doris Goetzinger. She was raised in Bow, Washington and eventually moved to Winthrop, Washington where her father worked for Dr. Kelly. She married Dale Dahlin and started her family in 1953. The family first lived in Edmonds, WA, then moved to Dale's family farm near Reardan and Spokane, WA. Some 6 years later the family moved to Ephrata, Washington. Life took Ruth many places, including nearly ten years living in Mexico and a year in Texas, but she settled in Winthrop nearly 35 years ago. Ruth will be remembered for many things. She worked as a caregiver, a cake maker, a house sitter, a bread baker, a secretary, and a business woman. She loved collecting and was fond of her “treasures.” Her greatest treasure, however, was her family. She doted on her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren alike. Here home was always open for a visit, and she would trek the many miles down to Wenatchee to join in family events. She flew to New York State on two occasions to spend time there with her son Steve. Friends and family will gather to celebrate Ruth’s life on Sunday, March 11 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Methow Valley Senior Center in Twisp, Washington at an informal event graciously hosted and coordinated by her fellow volunteers. As to her wishes, a part of her will forever remain at Falls Creek Falls, a frequently enjoyed nature hike just a short drive from her house.
