    Geraldine "Gerrie" Slechta

    August 30, 1928 - February 23, 2022

Geraldine “Gerrie” Marie (Johnson) Webb Slechta, (93) was born August 30, 1928, in Great Falls, MT, to Olie Daniel and Gertrude Letty (Evans) Johnson. She passed away peacefully after a short hospital stay, February 23, 2022. Gerrie spent most of her youth in Ronan, Montana, with a great love for the outdoors under the shadow of the Mission Mountain Range. She attended school in Ronan, MT, graduating from High School at the age of 16. Throughout her life she pursued many vocations such as dance instructor, secretary, bookkeeper, and business owner, to mention a few. She was very proficient in shorthand and served as the Administrative Secretary of the Cashmere School District for ten years. She was married September 6, 1946, to Garr Emery Webb and the two had five children. After living in Everett and Longview, WA, they moved to Wenatchee in 1952 and to Cashmere in January of 1960. After Garr’s death in 1977, Gerrie married Donald Dean Slechta December 3, 1981, and they continued to live in Cashmere for the rest of her life. Gerrie was a very talented writer and poet. She wrote many poems for weddings, deaths, anniversaries and other special events. She also participated and directed many drama productions. Her family was her greatest joy in life, and she took great pleasure in their talents and accomplishments. She made everyone feel welcomed in her home and was a friend to all with whom she came in contact. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a devout Christian. No one could be with her long before they knew of her commitment to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and her Christ-like love for others. Over the years she opened her home and her resources to many in need. She will be greatly missed but is so deserving of entering into her rest and hearing those words from her Savior: “Well done my good and faithful servant.” She was preceded in death by her parents, Olie and Gertrude Johnson, her 1st husband, Garr E. Webb, her sister Josephine Goddard Hope, her grandson Christopher Webb and granddaughter Tiffany Webb. She is survived by her husband, Dean Slechta, her children Randy (Sue) Webb, Keith (Sue) Webb, Dennis (Ronda) Webb, Susan (Cris) Regan Marchmonte, and Lance (Debi) Webb, 19 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening, March 3, 2022, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Jones & Jones Betts Funeral Home, 302 Ninth Street, Wenatchee WA. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, March 4, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2821 Easy Street in Monitor, WA. Arrangements are by Jones & Jones Betts Funeral Home, Wenatchee, WA. Donations may be made to: University of Washington Medical Center- Cardiac Surgery The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Humanitarian Aid Fund
