Donald "Don" Magnus

It is with love and sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Edwin Magnus on May 9, 2026, at the age of 88. Surrounded by family, Don passed away peacefully at Confluence Health Hospital. His life leaves a legacy of faith, love, laughter, and learning that will continue to bless all who knew him. Born on April 28, 1938, in Ellensburg, Washington, Don was the son of Edwin and Ethel Magnus and was preceded in death by his parents. Don's life was grounded in his Christian faith, a commitment he made as a teenager and faithfully maintained throughout his life. His faith shaped the way he loved and served others. Known for his quick wit, infectious smile, and hearty laugh, Don brought joy wherever he went. His greatest gift was his genuine love for people. Family, friends, former students, neighbors, and even his renters experienced the kindness and generosity that defined his character. A graduate of Garfield High School in Seattle, Class of 1956, Don earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Western Washington University in 1963. He enjoyed a distinguished 30-year teaching career in the Belfair and Renton School Districts. A beloved and award-winning teacher, he inspired generations of students, many of whom became lifelong friends. On December 17, 1960, Don married his best friend and the love of his life, Luann Butcher. Together, they shared 65 years of devotion, friendship, and love. Don enjoyed design and construction projects, working on cars, and traveling throughout Europe and the United States, especially the American Southwest. Yet his greatest joy was found in family gatherings at home and at the beloved family retreat, Harmony Heights. He is survived by his devoted wife, Luann; daughter, Susanne Sortor and her husband, John; son, Jon Magnus; grandson, Gavin Sortor and his wife, Natasha, and their daughter, Allyah; and granddaughters, Leyna Williams and her husband, Jonathon, and Alexis Connor and her husband, Brendan. A celebration of Don's life will be held on June 20, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Foothills Community Center, 1312 Maple Street in Wenatchee, Washington. Though deeply missed, Don's laughter and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
