Joseph "Joe" Flanagan

Joseph Flanagan, 78, died the morning of February 10, 2015 in Wenatchee, WA with his family at his bedside. Joe was preceded in death by his parents Anna Rose (nee' Moore) and Joseph Flanagan of Stranorlar Ireland,and brother in laws John Fell of Galway, Ireland, and Coleman Costello of Connemara, Ireland. He was born August 26, 1936 in Co. Donegal, Ireland. Joe moved to New York in 1954 and met the love of his life, Maureen, at an Irish dance. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Joe spent much of his career in heavy construction and led many large tunnelling projects across the US. He also was a general foreman for several years building the Alaska Pipeline. When Joe retired from construction, he moved the family to Bellingham, WA in 1986. Never one to stay idle for long, Joe soon bought a restaurant and raised horses and cattle for several years. In 2002, Joe and Maureen moved to Leavenworth, WA, then later to Wenatchee. He preferred the warm summers and the cold, snowy winters found in Eastern Washington. Joe was a member of the St Joseph’s Catholic Church of Wenatchee. His interests were focused around family and keeping active. He loved to camp, fish, hike, or just go to the gym. Joe could fix just about anything and was rarely without some kind of project. When he did choose to slow down, he was a voracious reader, especially books related to history. Joe is survived by his wife Maureen Flanagan, son, John Flanagan with wife Denise of Bellingham, and daughter, Donna (Steve) Flanagan Johnson of Seattle. His surviving siblings are sisters, Marie Fell of Galway Ireland, Bridget Gallagher of Dallas TX; brother, John (Marie)Flanagan of Stranorlar, Ireland, and sister, Anna (Phonsie) Lafferty of Ballybofey, Ireland. He's also survived by four adoring grandchildren, Jessica, Shauna, Coleman, and Brianna, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, both in the USA and in Ireland. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2015 at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Wenatchee, WA. Please join us to celebrate his life.
