Mary Patricia "Pat" Thomsen

After a life spent with compassion and love, Mary Patricia “Pat” Thomsen passed away peacefully on the morning of August 17, 2024. Pat’s was a life well lived, richly rewarded by the love of the family and friends she walked through life with. Born on June 28, 1931, in Bentonville, AR, to Dale and Merle Douglass, she started out with the strongest of Christian values, which continued throughout her life. The young family soon moved to Seattle, WA where she grew up and thrived. While attending Seattle Pacific University, she worked for Fredrick and Nelson department store. Here, she worked her way up to the coveted job of elevator operator. As the elevators were not automatic, a select few were chosen to be store ambassadors, wearing the last fashions and directing customer to the correct floors while running the elevators. This job was eclipsed only by a handsome bachelor, Carl Thomsen. On November 21, 1953, Pat and Carl were married and moved to their lifelong home in Waterville, WA. Their marriage only strengthened her commitment to God and family. Together, they raised three children: Linda, Lorie, and Mark and did so with steadiness and a sense of fun that never left her. Her laugh was contagious and her positivity legendary. Pat started each day with a walk and a devotional. This gave her the seemingly endless energy she spent making her community a better place. She was an active member at the Waterville Federated Church, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school and helping with food at every event. She volunteered at the food bank, was a member of PEO and was seen smiling and helping at numerous other organizations. When not volunteering, Pat loved to read. Many conversations were spent talking about a good book! She and Carl loved traveling to visit friends, their growing family, and to destinations that created lifelong memories. She was a wonderful baker, and provided dozen and dozens of cookies to vacation Bible school, Christmas caroling, and other community events. She enjoying sewing, gardening and CHOCOLATE! Pat is survived by her children: Linda (Ken) of Casper, WY; Lorie (Kraig) of Long Beach, CA; Mark (Kirsten) of Waterville, WA; her grandchildren: Rachel (Ben), Katie (Shane), Kaitlyn (Pat), Austin (Fabi), Bryan (Rachel), Garrett (Mia), Elaina (Michael), and Emily, along with 8 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; parents, Merle and Dale Douglass; and brother Dale Douglass. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the Waterville Federated Church, 224 West Ash St, Waterville, WA.
