Roger F. Snitily

Roger Francis Snitily, 70, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2015, due to a short illness. He was born to Francis and Helen (Hottovy) Snitily on May 8th 1945 (VE Day) in Wenatchee WA. Roger was the fourth of five children born to them, joining sisters Sandra and Carmen, and later brother Mark. Roger was raised in the Wenatchee Valley, attending the Wenatchee schools and ultimately graduating from Wenatchee High School in 1963. He attended Saint Martin’s University, Wenatchee Valley College, and Eastern Washington University. Roger enlisted in the National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1967. When he wasn’t attending college, Roger was working as an ironworker on numerous projects throughout Washington State. He married Sharon Gurnard on June 29th 1968. That union lasted 25 years, and his son Kyle Francis Snitily was born on February 20, 1971. Later, he married Judy Goodman on April 2, 2003. He and Judy enjoyed traveling, spending time with dear friends and going to various casinos. Roger purchased the family construction business in 1976. He continued to operate Snitily Brothers Construction with his dad Francis, then later his son Kyle until 2003. In 2003 he became a partner in Construction Service Associates, and he finished his career with IMCO General Construction in 2009. Roger worked on numerous construction projects over his 45 year career, building bridges and other structures throughout Washington State. When Roger wasn’t working, he was immersed in the outdoors. His love of fishing, hunting, and trapshooting carried on throughout his life. Be it chasing bass, salmon, or steelhead he was a very proficient fisherman. Summers of his later years were spent at Westport, where he fished for salmon every day the ocean would let him “cross the bar”. Eastern Washington was very dear to Roger as well. Hunting birds with his son, lifelong friends, and numerous labrador’s was a tradition that was anticipated every autumn. He instilled the passion for the outdoors in his son Kyle and his grandson Jake Snitily. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Virginia, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his wife Judy, son Kyle (Stephanie), and grandson Jake. Also surviving him are his siblings Sandra Hodgson, Carmen (Gary) Sirmon, Mark Snitily, and his nephews Mike and Doug Hodgson, as well as Thad, John, David, and Peter Sirmon and their respective spouses; numerous cousins. In closing we wish we could thank every “special” friend Roger had, but there’s too many to list. He was a man who lived life as he wanted, but cared deeply for those in it. Honesty, integrity, strong willed, and opinionated, are few words used to describe Rogers character. He surrounded himself with people of similar traits, and he was very proud of the friends he had. He was a very caring father, husband, grandfather, uncle and friend. A Celebration of Life Service will be held October 24th at 11 A.M. at Jones & Jones – Betts Memorial Chapel.
